Repairing Your Kitchen Sink Sprayer

by Kristina Burton

You might have a kitchen sprayer that broke awhile ago. It's not an essential part of your kitchen, but it came in handy by allowing you to more quickly rinse off dishes. Sometimes, it can be difficult to tell if a problem is caused by a sprayer because the problems arising from a sprayer can occur at the same time that the faucet is running. Therefore, if you cannot identify the problem with the faucet, you will need to instead inspect the sprayer. Fortunately, it isn't that hard to fix your sprayer, so you might be able to do it yourself.

Disassemble the Sprayer and Inspect the Parts

Disassemble the sprayer and determine if any part of the sprayer has worn out. If so, replace the part with an identical part. For example, washers will often wear out and cause leaks. If none of the parts appear to be worn out and there is still a leak, you will either need to replace the sprayer head or the sprayer hose.

Clean the Sprayer Head

You may simply need to clean the sprayer. To remove the sprayer head, simply unscrew it by turning it counter-clockwise. Mix together one part vinegar and three parts of hot water in a glass. Then, place the sprayer head in the mixture and allow it to sit for one to two hours. Then, scrub off the build-up using a brush. Reattach the sprayer head and test it to determine if it works or not. Sometimes, in the process of cleaning the sprayer head, the leak may already be resolved. This could be the result of a leak in the plastic coupling.

Replace the Sprayer Head

Remove the sprayer head. Then, remove the washer and the C-clip with a screwdriver. Then, install a new C-clip and screw a new sprayer head on by turning it clockwise.

Replace the Hose

The spray hose is located underneath the sink. Use a basin wrench to unscrew the hose and remove it. Then, feed a new hose into the holder. Wrap the male threads with pipe tape. Screw the hose to the faucet stem and tighten it with a wrench. Then, test the sprayer to make sure it works. While you may be able to fix your sprayer easily on your own, the problem might be more serious and you may need to have the sprayer replaced completely by a quality plumbing service.

About Me

Heavy Equipment Rentals-What You Should Know

Thanks for visiting my website. My name is Justin Cook. I am an avid do-it-yourselfer. I hate paying a contractor a large sum of money when I know that I can complete the project myself much cheaper by doing my own labor. However, there were a few projects I avoided because I didn't have access to the heavy equipment that would be needed to do the job. While surfing the web and looking at construction websites, I saw an advertisement for heavy equipment rentals. I had no idea I could rent this type of equipment. After doing some research, I learned what I needed to know about renting this type of machinery. I created this website because I figured if I didn't know, others didn't. If you are looking to rent heavy equipment for the first time, I hope my website answers any and all questions you may have.
